Taycan dyno mode, switched on and off from your laptop

Before a Porsche Taycan goes on a chassis dynamometer (rolling road), its control units are put into dyno mode. STEUER14 runs the vehicle-wide procedure the factory tester uses: it writes the mode into every control unit that supports it, shows which ones took it, and switches them all back afterwards.

01 · What it is

What dyno mode does on a Taycan

Dyno mode (Rollenmodus in the factory documentation) makes sure the car can be driven on a chassis dynamometer, and puts it in a state in which tests, such as certifications, run under the same conditions every time. It is a switch inside each control unit that supports it; on the Taycan, 16 control units carry it. The procedure writes the switch into each of them and skips units that don't answer.

It is a workshop state for the test bench, not a driving mode. The procedure itself tells you to deactivate it again after the dyno run.

02 · Before you start

What you need

✓A Taycan (9J1), a standard ENET cable, and STEUER14 on a Mac (macOS 13 or later, Apple silicon) or a Windows 10/11 64-bit laptop.

✓A car licence or the workshop plan. The car licence (€249 once, two of your own cars) includes maintenance procedures, service reset and dyno mode; the workshop plan is €89 a month or €890 a year. Prices plus 5% card fee.

✓The car on the dynamometer, a battery charger connected, ignition on, the car stationary and all doors closed. The procedure asks you to confirm each of these.

✓No relevant faults in fault memory. Reading and clearing faults is free.

03 · Step by step

Activating Taycan dyno mode with STEUER14

01Connect the car and let STEUER14 scan the control units.

02On the control-unit overview, open the Special functions tab, select Dyno mode — whole car and press Open. The app jumps to the Gateway's Maintenance & Repairs tab and opens Activate dyno mode.

03Confirm Start procedure?. The app reminds you that the procedure writes to control units.

04Tick the preconditions: vehicle on chassis dynamometer, battery charger connected, no relevant faults stored, ignition on, vehicle stationary, all doors closed. Next stays disabled until every row is confirmed.

05Choose the type of dynamometer: single-axle or two-axle. STEUER14 writes this axle configuration to the chassis control unit (PASM) first.

06The app then writes dyno mode to each supporting control unit in turn and reads every one back. The final table shows which units took it. A unit that stores the fault C10EE00 did not fully activate dyno mode.

04 · Undo

Switching dyno mode off again

When the run is over, open the Gateway's Maintenance & Repairs tab and start Deactivate dyno mode (ignition on, vehicle stationary). It writes the switch back to off in every unit and reads each one back. Check in the table that every unit has left dyno mode, then do an ignition cycle and clear the fault memory.

Query dyno mode status reads the switch in every unit at any time: 01 means activated, 00 deactivated. The Panamera (971, 972) and Cayenne (9YA) gateways list the same three procedures in their Maintenance & Repairs tab.

Safety first

Follow the dynamometer operator's safety rules, secure the car on the bench, and deactivate dyno mode before the car goes back on the road. Writing to control units changes how the car behaves; whether a change is allowed where the car is driven depends on local rules and is your responsibility, as with any tester.

No. STEUER14 runs the vehicle-wide procedure from your own laptop over a standard ENET cable.

Which licence covers dyno mode?

How do I know every control unit switched?

The table at the end of the procedure lists each unit's read-back value, and Query dyno mode status repeats the check at any time. A unit that stores C10EE00 has not fully activated.
